"Interactive Educational Experience"

First, look at the main sections of the program. Make a note of what you consider to be:

a) the positive, useful aspects of the program’s design

b) the drawbacks and less useful, or usable aspects of the program’s designs.

Now, think about the overall concept.

How was learning intended to emerge from the use of this program?

In what sense is the program an "Interactive Educational Experience?"

Look at the book, upon which the software is clearly based:

  • How have the writers of the program moved from the book to the program?
  • In your view, does the software add significantly to what is provided by the book?

Now look at the secondary parts of the program:

  • Are these stimulating activities?
  • Do these activities bring anything new to the experience or are they really ‘more of the same?’
  • Does the program lend itself to children working on it independently? How much input would be needed from the teacher.

How could the software developers have moved from the book to a format that better takes advantage of the computer’s capabilities to challenge and engender learning?

Write a short review, just a few sentences, summing up your conclusions about this program.

This product is very interesting in the way that it takes a book and makes it interactive.  In this respect it changes passive readers into active and involved learners.  The level of the material is quite sophisticated and will need a great deal of supplementary teaching, probably both prior to and during the product's use.
